Lessons on Leadership an Interview with Dick Jaehne

As Director of the Illinois Fire Service Institute, Richard Jaehne leads development of new curricula for fire service training and development of training facilities in Illinois. He also oversees research specific to the fire service and provides Illinois representation in state and national fire service forums. Richard served from 1968 to 1997 in the United States Marine Corps until he retired as a Colonel. He served in Vietnam, the Far East, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe and Washington, DC. Richard earned many U.S., foreign and personal awards, medals and commendations, including the Purple Heart and the German Honor Cross in Silver, the German government’s highest peacetime military award. He was also awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism while serving as a 2nd Lt. and Platoon Leader in Quang Nam Province, during the Vietnam War. Richard holds a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science and Financial Management from the University of Utah.
